Shoot setup – Please read carefully

The shoot is a hunter-type round, prioritising kills. You may have shot a similar round where a wound meant negative points. Whilst we see why some people like that format, we want everyone to go home with a positive score.

However, it will be demanding from a shooting perspective. There will be shots where you may have to kneel or crouch, shoot under, through or over natural obstacles, with tight shooting lanes. You may also need to ‘cant’ your bow. Please don’t enter if you don’t like the sound of that or are concerned that your bow style will not fit with this type of shooting.

But we are rewarding accuracy with more points (see below), and there should be no target that is over 30/35 yards.

There will only be one peg (both adults and juniors shoot from this peg). One foot or knee must be in contact with the peg. But this can be your front or back foot/knee, so you can position yourself in front of the peg if you think this is advantageous.

The course

If you have shot our woods before, at an open shoot of the Welsh Champs, you will be familiar with it, how we lay a course, and what to expect. We are also considering using a new section of the wood for some of the targets. This new part of the wood has more slopes, which will make for some interesting shots. Although we want people to leave happy, each peg will be a challenge, there will be no ‘gimmes’, and every point will be earned. Are you up to the challenge?

PS. If you are already booked into the Welsh Champs for 2026, this is another opportunity to take on Blaidd’s course layers.

This is how the scoring will work.

  • There will be one peg
  • You get up to two arrows from the peg
  • If your first arrow scores, you don’t get a second arrow
  • First arrow kill: (whole kill area) 20 points
  • First arrow wound: 5 points
  • Second arrow kill: (whole kill area) 10 points
  • Second arrow wound: 0 points
